Excerpt from this month’s Prayer Calendar.
During this “hot” season, Sally has reported it was 50 degrees Celsius and very humid! Please pray for the prevention of fires that can sweep so quickly across the urban poor communities, and that each family will continually be alert and aware of the possibility of a fire. Please pray that God will protect the people from these disastrous events…
Sadly, at the time of writing, there has been a terrible fire in Block 40, one of the squatter communities. 142 families lost their homes and 450 people have been affected, including Helen (pictured), one of the Hands of Mercy team members, and two children sponsored through the Child Sponsorship Programme. Families are now staying in pop-up evacuation tents which offer little protection against the heat, rain and theft. The local government has also said that they are not sure that they can keep feeding everyone three times a day. Please pray for this situation and give a gift if you can to help those affected by the fire.
